    ICONIC FLORENCE REMOTE LEARNING PROGRAMS

     

    Iconic Florence is FUA-AUF’s unique approach to remote learning, inspired by the innovation and cultural value of Florence and Italy. The goal is more than learning about Florence from afar – it is to experience Florence as a world-renowned symbol of culture in a significant and compelling manner.
     
    Icons can tell a story and help navigate our world. The Iconic Florence remote course offering  aims to deeply engage learners through a well-structured exploration of Florence on the MyFUA platform. Courses will provide individuals with a meaningful and transportable vision of the city that ultimately helps to inform and positively influence their future experiences.
     
    Duration: 3-credit courses scheduled in 3-week sessions, can be combined into semester-long experiences.

     

    Coursework: Photography, culture, Italian studies, food and wine, health and wellness, fashion, history.

    Options for 3-week experiential learning and 6 or 7-week internships available.

    FIELD LEARNING PROGRAMS •

    Learn and experience through active engagement and immersion in Italian culture and society. The Summer Cultural Introduction and Cultural Perspectives programs feature lectures, active participation, and on-site/field learning.

     

    CULTURAL INTRODUCTION TO ITALY

     

    When: This 1-week field learning course can be taken prior to all summer sesssions and the 11 or 15-week fall/spring semesters. The field learning coursework and activities take place along in Lazio (Summer/Fall) or Umbria (Spring) and Tuscany. The course is also offered as a Florence-only course or can be combined as a 6-credit offering that includes the field learning week and the lecture course in Florence.

    Areas of study: Course content is compatible with several areas of study such as food and culture, nutrition, history, food diversity, multiculturalism, art and religion.

    MULTICULTURALISM, FOOD, AND RELIGIONS IN THE ITALIAN-FRENCH RIVERIA


    When: This 1-week field learning course can be taken in Session D prior to Summer Session II. The field learning coursework and activities take place along the Italian-French Riviera. The course is also offered as a 3-week Florence-only course or a 4-week course (Session VI) that combines the week of field learning and the Florence session.

    Areas of study: Course content is compatible with several areas of study such as food and culture, nutrition, history, food diversity, multiculturalism, art and religion.

    CULTURAL INTRODUCTION TO THE ITALIAN FAMILY


    When: This 1-week field learning course can be taken in Session E prior to Summer Session III. The field learning coursework and activities take place in Florence hosted by an Italian family. The course is also offered as a 3-week Florence-only course or a 4-week course (Session VII) that combines the week of field learning and the Florence session.

    Areas of study: Course content is compatible with several areas of study such as sociology, anthropology, family and consumer sciences, and cultural studies..

    STARTUP VENTURES AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP


    When:

    This 1-week field learning course can be taken in Summer Session F or during the Fall/Spring Intersession Week. The course can be combined with a 3-week summer session in Florence (VIII) or the Fall/Spring semester (16-Week Session).  


    Areas of study: Course content is compatible with several areas of study such as business development, entrepreneurship, innovation and Made in Italy and experiential learning.

    TUTTOTOSCANA FLORENCE-NYC JAMES BEARD PROGRAM 

    The FUA-AUF TuttoToscana Study Away program is a flexible model for international study opportunities in Florence and NYC in the spring and fall seasons. Students may select Florence Session II 3-week courses that feature a course project geared towards the preparation of FUA-AUF TuttoToscana events and activities in NYC scheduled during the Intersession Week III. After the 3-week session, students may continue with a fourth study away week in NYC featuring events at the James Beard Foundation. Coursework in both Florence and NYC features 3 different areas of involvement and allows students to take on the challenge of bridging two cosmopolitan cities through hospitality, the visual arts, and food management with the objective of bringing Tuscan culture to NYC.


    Program Areas and Course Loads
    Area 1: Event Planning & Communications (3*-6-9 credits)
    Area 2: Art Direction: Visual Arts, Digital Media, and Art History (3*-6-9 credits)
    Area 3: Food Management and Production for Special Events (3*-6-9 credits)

    PRE-COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM

    FUA-AUF is offering a unique 3 or 4-week summer opportunity for high school students to participate in its cultural and academic offering. Students may select from an exciting range of courses and participate in field trips and supervised afternoon activities such as sports and discovering the city of Florence. Selected courses prepare students for college entrance and the transfer of credits.

Michelle Chiarappa is a Fall 2012 FUA-AUF alum. Currently a Fulbright Scholar teaching English language to students in Turkey, Michelle had some time off and decided to return to her favorite city, Florence.
