QUARTER PROGRAMS: DESIGN YOUR OWN STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE

FUA Quarters are an innovative entry into international studies in Florence, Italy. Students and continuing learners benefit from a flexible academic schedule featuring program starts any time of the year.

Flexibility
The Quarter Program is based on three consecutive 3-week academic sessions. Thanks to FUA’s flexible Academic Calendar, a program may start with any of the Short Program or Summer Sessions that run in the fall, spring, and summer including the month of January. Once the initial 3-week session is determined, it is easily combined with the subsequent two 3-week sessions to define the Quarter Program. This system is compatible with all types of learners, including:

  • Study abroad students following specific home institution calendars
  • Independent learners seeking non-traditional periods of the year

A Quarter Goes a Long Way
Students can take 1 or 2 courses per 3-week session. Each course awards 4 quarter credits (3 semester credits), allowing for semester-seeking students to fulfill a full load in a shorter timeframe.

Rich Course Selections
FUA is unique for its diverse course selections offered through the short session schedules. A rich selection of courses represented by FUA departments can be consulted on the Academic Schedule for all upcoming sessions:

  • Fall: September Intersession, A, B, C
  • January Intersession
  • Spring: A, B, C, D
  • Summer: I, II, III, IV

Please note that a Quarter Program can start in one season and conclude in another. There may be intersession weeks in between sessions, in such cases housing weeks can be added to cover the entire period of stay.

Shorter and Longer-term Options
Learners seeking shorter or longer-term options may opt for fewer or additional sessions with respect to the 3-session Quarter. A single 3-week session, for example, is a great choice for professionals who may have some time off and wish to enroll in a course for personal or professional enrichment.
